MAN 8 Series

 

 

 

The MAN 8 series was first introduced in 1979 as a joint venture between MAN and VW. A production model was shown in 1983. Production was shared between the MAN factory in Salzgitter-Watenstedt and the VW factory in Hannover. From 1986 until 1993 when production of the MAN 8 was shut down, manufacturing took place by MAN only.

Engine: Own 6-cylinder, type DO226MFA, 5.687 cm3 (347 cubic inches), liquid-cooled.
Horsepower: 136 at 3.000 rpm.
Transmission: 5-speed.
Transfer case: 2-speed.


Electrical system: 24 volt, negative ground.
Brakes: Air-over-mechanical.
Tyres: 12.5 - R20.
Fuel type: Diesel.
Fuel capacity: 140 litre (31 gallons).
Range: 500 km (312 miles).

 

It was available as model 8,150 (150 hp instead of 136). Some mounted with Sepson 4 ton H50G/63-40 winch.

 

Interestingly in 2005 some 100 vehicles have been donated to the Iraqi security forces.
