So who are we?

Since we met in our late teens, almost 30 years ago, Jill and I have always had a bug for travel. In our early days before we were married, many long weekends and summer holidays were spent travelling the roads of England and Scotland in a blue and white ex Co-Op Austin Morris van saved from the scrap yard for £35. In the summer we would go further a field on our motorbike, a beautiful Honda 900cc four-cylinder machine.

Our travelling continued whilst our children grew and during this time we bought and sold 13 houses. Looking back we believe we never found our ideal home because a home made of bricks was never for us, one with a wheel at each corner was always a better option.

Three years ago after selling our small business which we ran in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, we decided to follow our dream of touring Europe on our Honda Goldwing that took us six months. It was during this trip that we had an epiphany and came to realise that this is how we wanted to spend the rest of our lives, on the open road moving as the mood took us being able to meet and experience the different peoples and cultures of this world. Probabley one of the largest single events that changed our outlook on life was the visit we made to the Auschwitz concentration camp, something we believe everyone should do. A very humbling experience.

Todate we have sold our home, bought a truck, converted into our go anywhere motorhome, completed our shake down trip to Cyprus and back and are now looking forward to the Americas, an around the world trip that we expect will take up to 10 years to complete

The MacFarlane Clan

The MacFarlane homeland is located in the Scotish Highlands at the heads of Loch Long and Loch Lomond. For over five centuries this area, the feudal barony of Arrochar, was held by the chiefs of Clan MacFarlane and before them by their ancestors the barons of Arrochar. The family is Celtic in the male line and native to their beautiful Highland homeland of tall peaks and deep lochs just above the waist of Scotland.

The MacFarlanes are descended from Alwyn, Celtic Earl of Lennox, whose younger son, Gilchrist, received lands at Arrochar on the shores of Loch Long at the end of the 12th century. Gilchrist's son, Malduin, befriended and aided Robert the Bruce during his fight for independence from the English. The MacFarlanes are reported to have fought at Bannockburn in 1314. The clan takes its name from Malduin's son Parlan.
